The Club’s 2-year vice like hold of the Thornton Cup finally came to an end in this year’s semi-final.
Facing Thorndon Park at Wanstead Golf Club the match did not swing in Orsett’s way. The morning foursome were in the balance throughout the matches, at one point, Orsett were looking at going in 4-1 up, however, the final holes favoured the Thorndon team and they ran out 3.5-1.5 winners of the morning foursomes.
Following a quiet and reflective lunch the team were lead out by Harry Robson, all the team knowing that 6 points were required to force a playoff. Following the first 5 holes at Wanstead the Orsett lads were coming back towards the Clubhouse down, very down, in fact we were only level in one or two matches. The writing was on the wall and slowly but surely Thorndon Park picked up the necessary points to eventually run out 10-5 winners.
They will now face Chelmsford Golf Club in the final which will be played at West Essex Golf Club on Sunday 9th September, the Orsett team will re-group and start 2019 with renewed determination to get their hands back on the trophy.
Many thanks to all of those who have supported the team throughout the year.
