Threadgill Trophy 2018

The largest field in many years gathered for the first two rounds of the inaugural World Amateur Golf Ranking event. All players were greeted with perfect conditions and what many described as the perfect golf course. With benign conditions there were sure to be a number of players who would take adavantage, leading the way with a superb -7, 65 was Jay Beiser(Basildon GC). He was chased by 3 players, Shay McQueen (Chelmsford GC), Danny Vaughan & Harry Robson (Orsett GC). There were a total of 14 players who shot level par or better, this standard continued to improve throughout the day!

The second round continued under unbroken sunshine with 14 players again surpassing par or better, terrific rounds of 67 from Jack Hawksby (The Millbrook) and Jamie Richard (Abridge GC) lead the afternoon scores, Jay maintained his good form with a very solid round of 70 to secure a 6 shot victory from a charging Ryan Craig (Dunstable Downs) who carded an afternoon 68. Both Harry and Shay carded 73’s with Harry steeling 3rd by virtue of a better back 9.

Winner of the 36 hole nett prize was Michael Kavanaugh (Basildon GC) who carded 2 excellent rounds of nett 72 & 66 and will surely not be playing off 4 for too much longer.

Congratulations from all at Orsett for 2 great rounds of golf from Jay, we look forward to welcoming many of the competitors back to Orsett in July for the South East of England County Qualifying.

Many of the players now travel to Boyce Hill for the second two rounds of the Estuary Trophy where the final WAGR points will be awarded.
